HANDUMON NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL

       
SCHOOL PROFILE

Handumon National High School was established last June,1998 during the administration of Honorable Mayor Cariso T. Camacho with the support of the Barangay Local Government Unit and the parents of Barangay Handumon, Getafe, Bohol. With the desire to achieve quality education, Barangay Captain Gregorio T. Botero together with his councilmen, realized their dream by establishing a secondary school which was named Handumon High School. It is situated at barangay Handumon, Getafe, Bohol, some four (4) kilometers away from the town proper and ninety-one (91) kilometers from the city of Tagbilaran, the capital city of Bohol. The school has an area or 1,601 sq. meters. This was purchased and donated to barangay Handumon through the efforts of the barangay captain himself.

The two (2) elementary schools situated in the island and other elementary schools from the surrounding island barangays served as feeder schools of Handumon High School.

At the start, classes were held in two (2) classrooms donated by the La Tondena Foundation in the year 1998-1999. Another two (2) classrooms were built by the Departmant of Education, Culture and Sports in collaboration with the Department of Public Works and Highways thru the support of Gov. Erico B. Aumentado and Congressman Roberto C. Cajes.


PHYSICAL FACILITIES & PERSONNEL

Handumon National High School (HNHS) is enclosed with concrete fence and roofing metal. The school has Twelve (12) Junior High School sections and Six (6) Senior High School sections. HNHS is located at barangay Handumon, one of the three barangays of Jandayan Island in the municipality of Getafe, province of Bohol. It has one (1) school head and twenty nine (29) teaching staff and one (1) administrative assistant. The following are the current advisers for SY 2018-2019.


HNHS has seven (7) concrete and one (1) makeshift classrooms. But one of which is the computer room used as the temporary classroom for Grade 7 Hope. The two (2) classroom building was donated by the La TondeƱa Foundation last 1998 which give way to the officials in opening HNHS. In the year 2001, one (1) classroom was constructed through the aid of Gov. Erico B. Aumentado. A year later, another classroom was built courtesy of Cong. Roberto C. Cajes. The rest of the classrooms were acquired through donations by Parents Teacher Associations (PTA) and Non-Government Organizations (NGO).

New School Lobby
The chairs were obtained from DepEd appropriation and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Getafe. HNHS has assorted Science Laboratory Apparatus provided by DepEd. It has newly acquired one (1) sewing machine procured by PTA, one (1) gas range that is useful to TLE class secured from LGU Getafe, two (2) air-condition units donated by LGU-Handumon and LGU-Getafe. HNHS has computer units also where six (6) units are fully functional. The school has acquire also a Water Sanitation facilities that will promote good health to the students and faculty. The water supply is powered with electric motor from the deep well which was the project of Student Body Government under the advisory of Mr. Jose Argie Torreon.

With the effort of the new school administration, Mr. Rogelito H. Abanggan. The school is now using electric bell to give warning every end of the period and in time of emergency. It has also a new guard house at the same time lobby at the school entrance which is very useful especially if it’s raining. From the school entrance to the admin building was connected with concrete pathway which will aid from having muddy shoes. Considered to be one of the important acquisition of the school was the sound system. It is through the effort of the SBO with Mr. Glesan Dollo and Ericson Gurrea as advisers.




WAY TO HNHS

The school HNHS can be reached using various mode of transportation from key points in Bohol and Cebu City.

From pier 1 at Cebu port to Getafe wharf is just a 1 1/2 to 2 hours travel via Clemer and Meme wooden boats.

From Tagbilaran City to Poblacion Getafe is just 2 to 3 hours travel via bus or van. Then 5 minutes travel via Tricycle from Poblacion Getafe to Getafe wharf.

From Talibon to Poblacion Getafe is just 30 to 40 minutes travel via bus, van, jeepney, or multicab. Then 5 minutes travel via Tricycle from Poblacion Getafe to Getafe wharf.

From Getafe wharf is just 5 to 10 minutes travel to Jandayan Island wharf. And from Jandayan Island wharf is 5 to 10 minutes travel to Handumon National High School via motorcycle.
